Independent Reader!

AB is now officially an "Independent Reader" at school. Students must read 20 books on their reading level. When they've read their books, then they "Pop Their Top"...which means they get to open and drink their very own soda (actually a canned lemonade) throughout the day. They even have a little ceremony on the closed circuit TV morning announcements. It's a big deal in first grade. Many of the kids discuss at length who will be the next to "pop their top"...too cute!

AB is thriving in Dual Language (80%+ of her day is spent learning in Spanish) and we are thrilled with her can do attitude and eagerness to learn! She earned all E's (Honor Roll) on her last report card and received the Personal Success Award from her teacher for starting Dual Language a year later than the rest and doing so well!

Here are a few photos of AB's "pop a top" ceremony... including one with her classmate (who also became an "Independent Reader" that day) and their principal.
