After much research, planning, braving the crowds at the stores and lots of prayers, the girls and I will be staying home. It looks like we'll get wind and rain, much less severe than our Houston neighbors. We might be without power, but we're charging computers & cell phones as I type this. All of our neighborhood's power is underground, but who knows what will happen to the substation which supplies our power. We are hopeful that our power outage will be short-lived.
R & I have prepared our home to be a safe haven for our family. We've installed our storm windows; stocked up on non-perishable food & water; gathered all batteries, flashlights & candles so that they are easily accessible; stored all outside potential flying objects. Now we wait, watch the weather reports and pray.
If anyone wants to get local Bryan/College Station reports, visit the websites of our local newspaper (The Eagle) or our local TV station (KBTX). I have to warn you...our small town news coverage is basic at best, but at least you can get an idea of how things are here.
We're hopeful that Anna & Mark and their friends and family fare well as Ike visits them. Prayers are being said for everyone in Ike's path.
