I noticed today that it has been five long weeks since I last blogged. I have neglected my poor little blog, but I've been so busy! I've taken care of sick kids, planned and attended Gran Jan's 65th surprise birthday weekend, volunteered countless hours with the girls' schools and Junior League, plus my everyday job as mommy and wife.
One outing that has kept me busy was Anna Beth's class field trip this week. I was invited to join them on their visit to HEB & Petco...what a fun day! After learning much about food choices, preparation and yummy samples (including sushi and peanut butter made right before our eyes), we were off to Petco.
The class enjoyed tours and discussions of the ferrets (and other rodents), birds, fish and reptiles. In each area, the kids got to pet and or hold an animal. They were enthralled with the ferrets and birds. As we learned about reptiles, the excitement escalated...
The ghecko we were admiring jumped out of the Petco employee's hands and ran around on the floor by the kids. Then the next animal star, the iguana, literally leaped out of the employee's hands and onto a little boy's head. Shrieks, screams, scrambling second graders followed. Then, the tortoise got a tad nervous and had an accident on the same boy who had just brushed the iguana out of his hair.
All of the children were great sports about the experience and I am sure that they are all still talking about the excitement. It was one of the most fun school field trips that I have attended. And I have attended a pretty large number of them!
